The Trip of a Lifetime to Antarctica: FAQs

The trip of a lifetime with Oceanwide Expeditions takes you on a journey through the expansive Antarctic and Ross Sea. You’ll have the chance to spot fur seals, orcas, Emperor penguins as well as important pieces from the past! With so much interest in Oceanwide Expedition’s contest valued at over $25, 000, we’ve decided to put together a list of questions with accompanying information to get you started!

When does the contest end? How much time do I have to get votes?

The competition started December 8, 2015 and ends February 29, 2016 and is open to all participants over the age of 18.

If I get more than the minimum 20 votes, does that increase my chances of winning?

From all entries that have a minimum of 20 votes, five will be chosen and each has a 20% chance of winning; of these five, three entries are chosen based on the amount of votes received; one entry will be chosen by Oceanwide Expeditions based on creativity and one will be drawn from all entries with at least 20 votes.

How do I set up a profile? What information do I put on it?

You must submit one entry on Oceanwide Expeditions website by completing the entry form provided then click “create profile.” Getting creative is a good idea as one entry will be chosen by Oceanwide Expeditions based on its level of creativity.

When will I know if I’ve won?

Winners will be chosen early to mid-March and notified via e-mail and Facebook.

Do I need any special experience to go on an Antarctic Expedition?

No, this once-in-a-lifetime expedition is for everyone with safety being a top priority. The Ortelius has the highest ice-class notation and is suitable for navigating in one-year sea ice and loose multi-year pack ice. The vessel is manned by 20 highly-experienced international nautical crew, 19 international hotel crew, seven expedition staff for Antarctica and one Doctor.

It’s that easy! Make a creative profile, start gathering votes now and you could be well on your way to the Antarctic! If you have more questions, check out Oceanwide Expedition’s website or leave a comment below.
