Speckles of Human Perseverance – United States of America

How the Photo was Taken

As dusk approached, cars left the park and the night sky began to sparkle. I noticed speckles of light from afar illuminating well renowned grandeur granite wall El Capitan / ‘The Captain’. Believe it or not, those are human rock climbers beginning or continuing their ascent up the mighty 3000 ft. vertical rock formation. Night time offers cooler temperatures and aids in providing better friction for holds. Having just watched the Dawn Wall film and being an avid recreational rock climber myself, I was still engulfed in the world of climbing. These individual speckles of light are each on different journies, with the final destination being the same – the top of El Cap. Whatever the reason for their motivation to climb the wall, an immaculate degree of persistence, technical focus, absurd physical and mental strength and perseverance is required for such a feat. It was a greater reminder that humans are capable beyond words – a humbling experience and observation I had during my 2nd trip to Yosemite National Park.

Photo Location

This photo was taken at Tunnel View, Yosemite National Park in the Eastern Sierras in Central-Eastern California, on September 25th, 2018 at 7:41 ish PM, about over half an hour past sunset. It's easy to access as there is a dedicated parking lot and this is a marked well visited site on Google maps. I highly advocate downloading Google Offline Maps for the area :)
