Interview With Travel Blogger Lisa Ellen Niver Of We Said Go Travel @wesaidgotravel

In today’s interview we meet Lisa Ellen Niver of We Said Go Travel. A total travel addict Lisa first got a taste for long term travel working on cruise ships.

What is your name?

Lisa Ellen Niver

Which country do you come from/call home?

USA

Are you a backpacker/long term traveller/business traveller/live and work abroad?

I am a long term traveler. My first job in travel was working for Club Med in Colorado and the Bahamas. I sailed the seven seas for seven years working for Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean International and Renaissance. I was recently interviewed in Yahoo Travel about my job as senior assistant cruise director.

How do you fund your travel (savings/work whilst travelling/other)?

I have been doing social media consulting, writing and last year I was on television for Hilton Garden Inn in New York City

What is the first trip you remember taking and how old were you?Have you been anywhere which turned out to be totally different to how you imagined? If so, how?

Almost every trip! I went to Yellowstone this summer and I had no idea it would be so big or that the animals would be so close. I loved every minute. I also loved seeing the buffalo at Custer National Park. I love this video of our drive

Have you had any bad experiences whilst travelling?

I have mainly found that when things do not turn out how you expect, you often find the best people. I was in Israel for my birthday in October 2015 on a press trip. I did not tell anyone it was my birthday but they found out on Facebook and went out of their way to make my day special. It really made a difference to me. You can see some Israel videos here:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLv_jKkCiDQcQd-k0sVpAVSlR01oJJSPg1

Do you have any funny travel stories?

When I worked on cruise ships while we were sailing in the Mediterranean Sea near Greece, an American woman came to the front desk and asked, “Is this the same moon I can see at home?” We told her yes, but I really wanted to ask if she arrived by airplane or space ship!

Where is your favourite place in the world?

I have loved visiting so many places! Top of the list is Thailand, Mongolia and anywhere underwater! I love SCUBA Diving. Diving in Palau, Sipadan and Cozumel were some of my favorites. I cannot wait to get back underwater. Here you can see me underwater when I went to Puerto Rico with a team from Orbitz

How did Expedia recognise you?

I was honored that Expedia put my site on their best bloggers of 2015 list! http://expediablog.co.uk/best-bloggers-of-2015/

I also am on the top 1000 #Travel1K travel sites list! The first week I was on I was #13.

Do you have a bucket list? If so what is on it?

Antarctica, African safari and Iceland

Why were you on national TV?

I was invited to share a day in the life of a teacher for the show Career Day. Two television crews followed me around in my classroom for over three hours. My students were so excited to be on National Television! It was a really fun day for all of us! You can watch the three-minute segment on our We Said Go Travel YouTube channel.

Recently I was on TV as a travel expert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AsA3uqufhU&index=4&list=PLv_jKkCiDQcQdZ5lek95Na9-yZxDSWMQN

Can you imagine life without travel?

I love to travel. I cannot imagine if my passport were taken or I was not free to wander our planet. I feel very fortunate to be able to see so many interesting places.

If you were not travelling what would you be doing instead?

I would teach again. I love sharing science with my students.

I just love to be on the go! I will take any mode of transport! I went on my first hot air balloon ride this summer and now I want to learn to fly a plane and jump out of one!

Do you have any advice or tips for aspiring travellers?

Remember the “F” word: FLEXIBLE! While traveling, things do not always go according to my plans. Enjoy the bumps and delays as much as you can, sometimes they are the most memorable and you make the best new friend!
