May 2017 News: 3 New Countries Takes me to #99!

May 2017 NEWS: Time to TRAVEL!

I am writing the news early this month as I will be spending over three weeks in Europe in May and going to six countries. Three of them I have never been to before and they will be countries #97, 98 and 99! I feel so very fortunate that I have these amazing adventures as part of my 50 Things Before I am 50 Project.  Thank you for all your support. I cannot wait to tell you all about it!

Where did I travel in April and May?

In my April news, I mentioned my trips to New York City and Clearwater, Florida but at the end of the month I went to Shanghai for the weekend! Please click here for a preview of what we explored in China. In May, I went to the 2017 SCUBA Show and flew to Nice, France to begin my European journey. I traveled by helicopter to Monaco to see the e-Grand Prix. I also went to Ireland, Scotland, Italy and San Marino. Photos and videos coming soon to share my stories.

First Place:

PERU: THANKFUL TO BE ALIVE IN AGUAS CALIENTES BY JON LAPIDESE

Aguas Calientes is a mountain town in Peru. It’s also Spanish for hot water – which was appropriate as that was where I found myself at the moment. It was late and our film crew was tired and hungry. I was tired, hungry and worried. The local fixer who had promised me dozens of rooms had desaparecido. Vanished.

Second Place:

FINDING LOST GRATITUDE IN KANAZAWA, JAPAN BY RITU PRASAD

In February, I received my first acceptance to graduate school. In March, I lost my grandfather to cancer. In April, I quit my job. By May, I had moved home, attended my first funeral, and booked a two-month-long trip around the world.

Third Place:

INDIA’S TOXIC BEAUTY BY KATIE DIEDERICHS

The smell of cow dung assaults my nostrils and my skin is damp in the humidity. Stares of passersby burn holes in my skin and there’s a lump in the back of my throat growing steadily bigger. This isn’t the India I’d imagined.

I have been honored to publish nearly 2000 writers from 75 countries with the thirteen writing competitions I have hosted on We Said Go Travel. I hope you will consider participating in the next competition or sharing it with someone who wants to tell their tale. Thank you for all the support over the years.

As my fortune cookies said: “Live in THIS moment” and “Through greater effort and hard work a precious dream comes true!” I am working every day to make my goals into reality and it is actually happening! If you have suggestions for my country #100, let me know!

Thank you for your support. Lisa
